San Francisco 49ers 2011 Draft Grade:  B+

2nd round quarterback Colin Kaepernick was the best pick in the 2011 NFL draft.  Now we don't presume to know whether he is going to be in the 50% of early round quarterbacks who succeed or the 50% who don't, but we do know that if he does pan out he will be one of the top quarterbacks in the NFL (the other quarterbacks, Cam Newton excepted, simply don't have that high a ceiling) and that was certainly worthy of a chance early in the second round.  Aldon Smith was a slight reach at the 7th pick, but like Kaepernick if he reaches his potential his ceiling is high.  He reminds us of Manny Lawson coming out of college.  Chris Culliver, a cornerback out of South Carolina was a horrible pick in the 3rd round.  He's Chris Cook.  A guy who runs fast and looks good in shorts but has no football instincts and can't catch a football.  Kendric Burney, who was undrafted, is a significantly better player than Culliver.  Kendall Hunter was an excellent pick in the 4th round and we view him as an every down back prospect, not just a third down type.  Their draft will certainly hinge on the broad shoulders of The Transformer, and we're betting they made the right call.
