Hall of Famer Reggie White played one season for the Panthers.

Carolina Panthers 2020 Draft Grade: C+

The Panthers love to take defensive tackles in the first round, and Derrick Brown now joins the list.  He will be a force in the middle and if he can get 6-7 sacks a year he will be a Pro Bowler.  Yetur Gross-Matos in the second was solid value.  He's an upside pick.  Jeremy Chinn has elite traits but probably needs a year before he starts.  Late round S Kenny Robinson has elite starter traits and good tape, but he had some off field issues.

Carolina Panthers 2018 Draft Grade: B-

The Panthers finally give Cam a potential premium weapon on the outside, snaring our top rated receiver D.J. Moore in the first round.  Moore could develop into the best receiver Cam has ever had. (Steve Smith was at the end of his career, people!). CB Donte Jackson and LB Marquis Haynes add speed and youth to the defense and 4th round TE Ian Thomas could be Greg Olsen's replacement next year.

Carolina Panthers 2017 Draft Grade: C+

The Panthers biggest need was in the secondary, and they didn't address that until the fifth round with CB Corn Elder.  He was a value pick there, but they still have issues in the back end of their defense.  Christian McAffrey will be a nice weapon, but top 10 was a little rich for our blood.  WR Curtis Samuel is explosive, but he's more of a gimmick player who doesn't have natural hands.  He will generate some explosive plays, but the second round was too early. Second round OT Taylor Moton was the Panthers best pick and the Panthers have finally invested a high pick in a tackle to protect Cam.  Third round DE Daeshon Hall is a Matriculator, Jr. favorite.

Carolina Panthers 2016 Draft Grade: D

It's nice having the greatest quaterback of all time.  When you have him you don't need receivers or offensive linemen, and the Panthers continue to heap the teams fortunes on Cam Newton's considerable shoulders.  They still needed offensive line help but didn't draft any offensive linemen.  Instead, they fortified the defense by adding DT Vernon Butler, who we like, and three corners.  None of the three corners were rated as potential starters, and they took a back-up tight end in the 7th.  We don't expect much playing time for this draft class, though the Panthers hit home runs with undrafted free agents S Jeremy Cash and WR Keyarris Garrett.

Carolina Panthers 2015 Draft Grade: D

On a team loaded with premier linebackers and short on offensive linemen, the Panthers use a first round pick on a linebacker?  They selected Shaq Thompson who isn't a first round talent and passed on protecting the francise's blind side.  They traded up for Devin Funchess, the second coming of Kelvin Benjamin, and finally took a right tackle in Darryl Williams in the 3rd round.  They reached in the first two rounds and didn't do enough to rebuild their offensive line.

UDFA most likely to make the team: Garry Peters- CB, Clemson

Carolina Panthers 2014 Draft Grade: D+

If you didn't know any better you'd think they screwed this draft on purpose.  It's hard to be this bad.  The Panthers had to get a premier offensive lineman and wide receiver to help in the development of Cam Newton.  Instead they draft a talented but raw receiver in the first and a back-up defensive end (they have Pro-Bowlers at both end spots) in Kony Ealy in the 2nd.  Then they draft a developmental guard in the third?  5th round corner Bene Benwikere was the only pick we liked.  Good luck keeping Cam Newton after this catastrophe.

UDFA most likely to make the team: Denicos Allen- LB, Michigan State
